Orange Bags: May 3 - 10, 2014

Trash in official orange trash bags will be accepted for free disposal at Solid Waste Services facilities during Anchorage Chamber Citywide Cleanup Week. These facilities include Girdwood Transfer Station, *Central Transfer Station, and Anchorage Regional Landfill.

Only trash from community clean-up efforts will be accepted in the orange bags. Please provide your team or business name.

To be accepted without a fee, orange bags must be delivered separately from other waste. No yard waste or items from personal property will be accepted.

Loads must be in a car, an unmodified pickup truck, or a trailer with the load not to exceed the size of a standard pickup truck bed (8 feet by 5.5 feet by 3 feet high). Loads not to exceed 1,000 ibs.

"Super Sweepers" Saturday: MAY 3

The Super Sweepers program will be held at these participating schools from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Free Dump Days: Saturday, MAY 3 & Saturday, May 10

Free loads will only be accepted from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 3 and Saturday, May 10 at the Anchorage Regional Landfill (Hiland Road exit of the Glenn Highway) and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Girdwood Transfer Station (same days).

The Central Transfer Station in Anchorage will be CLOSED to all customers, including orange bags, on both Saturdays due to construction (May 3 and May 10).

Only residential waste is accepted for no fee during the free dump days.

All loads must be secured or covered to prevent littering in transit and must not exceed 1,000 pounds. Uncovered loads will be subject to fines.

Loads must be in a car, an unmodified pickup truck, or a trailer with the load not to exceed the size of a standard pickup bed (8 feet by 5.5 feet by 3 feet high).

No construction or demolition debris, including remodeling waste, decks, or sheds.

Children under the age of 14 must remain in the vehicle.

Fee Items

Payments may only be made with cash or local checks (with a valid driver's license). Credit cards are not accepted.
All loads exceeding 1,000 pounds will be weighed and charged $58 a ton at the Anchorage Regional Landfill.
Visit the SWS website for fees at other facilities. Scaled loads require the customer to wear a safety vest.

There is a $20 charge for appliances containing Freon such as refrigerators or freezers. Certifications of Freon removal will be accepted in lieu of the fee.

The commercial scales will be open at the Anchorage Regional Landfill on May 3 and May 10, and will operate under the regular fee schedule.

Double loads (e.g., a full pick-up hauling a trailer) will be directed over the scales and fees will apply.

Hazardous Wastes

Residential household hazardous wastes, up to 40 pounds per day, are accepted at the Household Hazardous Waste Facility located at the Central Transfer Station and at the Hazardous Waste Facility located at the Anchorage Regional Landfill. This limit includes five gallons of waste oil, one car battery and up to 40 pounds of household hazardous waste per household per day.

Although the Hazardous Waste Facility at the Anchorage Regional Landfill will be open on Free Dump Days, it is recommended that residents utilize this facility on a regular operating day.
